Communication and the Internet

Which communication forms are synchronous?
Synchronous forms of communication are forms of communication in which the signals that are sent from one device to the other are timed equally, or paced, you could say, in other words, they are synchronised. Due to this, only one form of data or voice can go in one direction at a time. For example, a conversation would go something like: Person A, Person B, Person A, Person B, etc... Synchronous forms of communication are:
  • Chat Rooms
  • IM'ing
  • Telephone conversations
Which communication forms are asynchronous?
Asyncronous communication is the opposite of synchronous communication, therefore, two pieces of data or voice can go both directions at the same time. Examples are:
  • Blogging
  • E-mailing
  • Texting
  • Discussion boards
What types of info would be conveyed by each form of communication?
Using synchronous communication, you can send data that is mostly text. Using asynchronous communication, you can convey a wider range of data, including files, text, images and more.

What kind of hardware and software is needed for each form of communication?
Hardware needed can be:
  • Computer
  • Laptop
  • Phone
  • USB (if needed)
Software required could be:
  • Google Chrome
  • Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Internet Explorer
  • Social Networking Apps (Whatsapp, Kik, Blogger, Mail, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.)
