Foods Affected by GM Technology

So far, many foods have been changed using GM Technology, such as:

  • Alfalfa

To find out more about GM Foods, you can just watch the news, keep up to date with it, and even read the newspaper, or a nature magazine or online newspaper to know what's going on. Usually there are reports on the news about either how GM foods has caused problems in the world and sometimes advertisements that sponsor GM Foods to give more beauty and so on. If you don't watch the news, then you can still research using different search engines, whether it's for a project or for fun!

Action taken to Prevent GM Technology Developing

There are some eco-friendly groups of people who stand protests to stop GM Foods developing. Their opinion is that GM Foods affect the ecosystem and environment, for example, GM crops that are pest resistant, make the pests starve and die, which makes their predators starve and then their predators and so on and so on. There have been times when protesters have invaded fields full of GM crops.

Problems in GM Technology

There are many issues with GM technology, but one of the main ones is that there are too many uncertainties.  Many times, there have been disasters in the lab. Sometimes the results don't turn out too well, for example, when GM foods are tried out on lab rats for the first time, sometimes they affect the rat's offspring or give it dangerous diseases. So the problem is, if GM foods are dangerous to health, they cannot be sold.

GM Foods - The Science Behind It

Every living organism has its own unique DNA and genes that makes it what it is, for example, visual characteristics or habits. Genes are inherited from your parents or are given to you by your parents. the science behind GM foods is that scientists take certain characteristic genes from one food, and then insert it into another food, to make the second food grow according to that gene, therefore genetically modifying it!
For example, if a scientist wanted to grow a kiwi that looked like an orange from the outside, they would take a gene from an orange that made it grow an orange skin that you can peel, then insert it into a growing kiwi plant, which makes all its fruit grow orange skin, therefore creating a hybrid fruit, which I, personally, would name a kirange!
